Who are Cirrus Racing?
Cirrus Racing is an Edinburgh based STEM Racing team,
made up of six S4 pupils who are passionate about
engineering. We are all excited to be competing in
our second year of the competition with our recent
result of coming second in the Scottish Regionals.
One of the most interesting areas of the competition
is working with like-minded businesses who want to
promote the next generation of Scottish Engineers,
for example we have worked with many companies such
as NXP Semiconductors and GoMerry Studios.
STEM Racing is a life-changing experience where the
skills and experiences we’ve learned/gained are ones
which will stay with us for the rest of our lives;
from learning to manage six people’s schedules at
once to learning how to CNC any shape or material
you might want or to communicating in a professional environment.
What is STEM Racing?
STEM Racing (formerly F1 in Schools) is a global competition for
students aged 9–19 that blends science, technology, engineering and mathematics
(STEM) with the excitement of motorsport. Participants work in teams of 3–6 to design, analyze,
manufacture, and race miniature, CO2-powered Formula 1 cars using CAD/CAM software and CNC machinery.
Beyond engineering, teams manage branding, sponsorship, and project management portfolios, mimicking a real-world
F1 team. The competition culminates in regional, national, and international events,
providing hands-on experience and fostering crucial skills for future careers
in engineering, technology, and business.
